Berea Friendship United Methodist Church
From the Lay Leader
We have had a lot of exciting things happening in Berea Friendship recently!
During July, we completed a local mission outreach by partnering with Victor UMC in Greer. Victor UMC has a lot of children within walking distance, and they wanted to provide a “Summer Fun” week to give the children an opportunity to have a structured activity time for a week while they are out of school. Victor UMC also partnered with Project Host to provide nutritious breakfasts and lunches for the participants each day. We chose to use “God’s Great Gallery” VBS materials that we had here at the church, and gave the 35 participating kids a week to remember ! Other churches in Greer were invited to help, but Berea Friendship carried the volunteer load. I would like to thank everyone that made this week a success: Pastor Enrique, Pastor Shirley, Melissa Miller, Margaret Rawson, Summer Rawson, Maribeth Willard, Jan Smith, and our youth helper,
Emily from the Esperanza congregation. The Quilters loaned us their “Cricut” machine to cut out initials for shirts that the kids were able to paint. Denise drew a Creation mural that the children were able to color during the week, and helped with the creative decorations. And, Dennis and Denise helped set up and take down everything . Also, thank you to all of our “prayer warriors” who were behind the scenes!
On Saturday, August 5th, we held our VBS here. We had a very small, but very enthusiastic group of students who were eager to visit God’s Great Gallery at Berea Friendship. Please pray for these participants, and pray that God will increase the number of children that participate in the activities that we plan for them in the future . The generous members of our congregation donated school supplies for a “Back to School” bash. We put together 50 bags of school supplies! Seventeen bags were distributed to our students at Berea Friendship and Esperanza, and the remaining bags were donated to Armstrong Elementary School. Each bag contained an invitation to join us on Sunday morning at 10:30, or join the Esperanza congregation at 1:00 Sunday afternoon.
Thank you to everyone for making this new endeavor a success!
Finally, we have some activities coming up that you will want to be sure to note on your calendars. Saturday, September 30 from 1:00 till 3:00 p.m. will be our Fall Festival. On Sunday, October 8th we will observe Children’s Sabbath, and on October 31st we will host a “Trunk or Treat” event. Look for more information on these events in the newsletter and bulletin.
Thank you for allowing me to serve Berea Friendship as your Lay Leader!
